08/24/2010 - Flushing, NY (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Luis Castillo's RBI single in the ninth gave the New York Mets a 6-5 win over the Florida Marlins in the opener of a three- game set.
With Will Ohman (0-2) on the mound, Ike Davis singled to start the frame. After Jeff Francoeur flied out, Josh Thole singled to put Davis in scoring position. After Mike Hessman struck out, Castillo punched a single to right and Davis easily scored for the win.
Angel Pagan went 4-for-5 with three runs scored while Carlos Beltran and Francoeur each had two RBI for the Mets, who have won three of four.
R.A. Dickey went seven innings in the start and was charged with five runs on 10 hits with eight strikeouts. Hisanori Takahashi (8-6) got the win for throwing a scoreless ninth.
Gaby Sanchez hit a three-run home run and finished with four RBI while Dan Uggla drove in the other run for the Marlins, who have dropped their past two. Josh Johnson went five innings and was charged with four runs -- three earned -- on six hits with four walks and four strikeouts.
Trailing by two runs in the seventh, the Marlins used the long ball to surge ahead. Brett Hayes led off with a single and Emilio Bonifacio followed with a single. Three batters later, Sanchez deposited a pitch over the left field wall for a 5-4 lead.
New York, though, tied the game in the eighth as, with two outs, Pagan doubled and Beltran followed with a run-scoring single.
The Mets grabbed the lead in the second when David Wright led off with a triple and later came home on a sacrifice fly from Francoeur for a 1-0 advantage.
Florida went ahead in the third with a pair of runs thanks to consecutive sacrifice flys from Sanchez and Uggla for a 2-1 lead.
New York, though, got the run back in the third as Wright hit a ball to third that Wes Helms misplayed, allowing Pagan to score and tie the contest.
In the fifth, the Mets went ahead. Pagan led off with a single that saw him reach third as Cameron Maybin misplayed the ball. Beltran followed with a run-scoring single and moved to third on Wright's single. Francoeur then lofted his second sac fly of the game for a 4-2 lead.
