Nationals bring Marquis off DL to make Sunday start

Baseball Betting Lines

08/08/2010 - Los Angeles, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Washington Nationals reinstated right- hander Jason Marquis from the 60-day disabled list to make Sunday's start versus the Dodgers.

Marquis, who signed to a two-year, $15 million contract in the offseason, spent the past 3 1/2 months on the DL after having surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow back on May 14. He landed on the DL April 22 having made just three starts -- all losses -- while sporting a ghastly 20.52 earned run average.

The 31-year-old veteran failed to get out of the fifth inning in any of his starts and yielded at least six runs in each outing.

To make room on the roster, lefty Ross Detwiler was placed on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to August 6, with a right hip strain. Detwiler is 0-2 with a 3.46 ERA in three starts for the Nationals this season. He was drilled for nine hits and seven runs in four-plus frames in his latest outing, an eventual 8-4 loss to Arizona on Thursday.

MySportsbook.com Posts Heisman Trophy Odds

With 3,919 passing yards, 32 touchdowns and a mere seven interceptions last season, combined with a powerful South Bend Heisman legacy, odds makers at MySportsbook.com have given Notre Dame senior quarterback Brady Quinn the best Heisman Trophy odds at 5-2.

Quinn isn’t the only big man on campus this season.  Oklahoma junior running back and 2004 Heisman runner-up Adrian Peterson, listed at 7-2, rushed for a combined 3,033 yards in his first two years as a college player and will give Quinn a run for his money.

This online sportsbook has also listed Troy Smith, Ohio State senior quarterback, as another strong favorite to win the 72nd Heisman Trophy.  A 7-1 bet, Smith threw for 2,282 yards last season and also led the Buckeyes to a convincing 34-20 victory over Quinn and the Fighting Irish in last season’s Fiesta Bowl.
